G’day guys, Ray Corcoran here, founder of KR2 Business Coaching.
Today we’re going to be talking about getting important stuff done.
Just one technique that I found to be really effective. And that’s the topic of this week’s video.
In this week’s video I want to be talking about how to get important stuff done, and a technique that I learnt from Tony Robbins.
I’ve personally used it and found it super-effective in going from stuff I sort of might do, to stuff I definitely do every single week, on command, and whatever.
It’s pretty simple; it’s deceivingly simple.
It’s just all about turning ‘shoulds’ into ‘musts’.
I’ll give you one example, for me personally.
I do a little bit of exercise; I’m not a super exercise fanatic or anything, but I found like I was going to the gym sometimes; basically when I felt like it.
When it was perfect – you know, it was a nice morning and this and that.
And that’s the only time that I really went; I only went when all the planets and all the stars were aligned, and stuff like that.
Since running my business, I wanted to get a bit more consistent with how often I went to the gym, and how often I went for a run and stuff like that.
I learned this thing from Tony Robbins where he says, ‘turn your shoulds into musts’.
I woke up in the morning and I was like, ‘I should probably go to the gym’, but I usually didn’t.
It’s a very subtle distinction, but it’s very powerful.
If it’s important to you, it should be a must.
I started treating fitness and all that exercise stuff as being a must; a non-negotiable.
So when I woke in the morning and it would be nice and warm in bed, and nice and relaxing and stuff; the old me would have probably slept in and if I felt like it, I would have gone, if I didn’t, I would just leave it – whatever; I’d just start my day, and get stuck into the work.
I decided to make a change, to make it a high priority, something that was a must. I decided to; regardless if it was pissing down with rain, or if it was a super-cold day or whatever, I would still get up and go to the gym. In the last six months, I’ve consistently gone. I’m not like some super athlete of anything (laughs), but I’m going to the gym at least every second day, if not every day, or going for a run.
I just do that consistently now, and I honestly could not do it for the life of me up until I started turning fitness & exercise from a should into a must. I started treating it like a must, regardless of how I felt in the morning. I would just put my runners on, grab my gym stuff, and head out the door before I had a chance to talk myself out of it!
So, think about how you could apply that in your own business; in your own life. Are there some things – important stuff – that you should be doing, but are not doing it? I would recommend turning it into a must, and treating it like that, and I promise you’ll see some pretty good results.
So, let me know how you go with it. That’s this week’s tip, and good luck with it.
Cheers.
